Vintage find - Dali Brooches

As you all will soon discover Ms Magpie loves a vintage find and at a little trip to a local flea market this weekend I discovered 2 beautiful brooches to add to my collection.
These little Salvador Dali brooches where a real treat to find buried among the broken jewels of a flea market jewellery box, I have always loved Dali's art work and in particular his jewellery designs so I was delighted to discover these 2 reproduction brooches.

Pomegranate Heart Brooch
The beautiful red pomegranate seeds burst from the flesh of the gold heart and sparkly gems catch the light. Richly saturated in colour as was Dali's style the brooch is very eye catching and I cant wait to wear it. Dali featured pomegranates in a a few of his pieces of artwork to saying
The many-celled reddish pomegranate berry pulses with life. The slightly acid flavour of the fruit is agreeable - as acidity stimulates human accomplishment." - Dali

The original brooch was designed by Dali in 1949 and this particular example style was crafted by his jeweller Henryk Kaston who made all of Dali’s jewellery from 1980 to 1990 .
Though my new brooch is only gold plated with red and clear sparkly crystals the original was crafted in 18ct gold, rubies and diamonds and is on permanent exhibition next to the Dalí Theatre - Museum in Figueres and a bit over my budget at around $8000 so I am very happy with my little reproduction brooch.

The Bleeding World Brooch
A very striking brooch and pearl arrow pierces the world as it brakes and bleeds, Dali designed the pendant in 1953 and meant it to “symbolise the love of Christ and the hope for peace in a world divided by war and chaos” Beautifully poignant and symbol of hope especially in the post war and nuclear threat period that it was designed in. The original was crafted by silversmith Calos Alemany & Ertman Inc in New York with the stones used and details all supervised by Dali.

Though my new brooch is only gold plated with red crystals and faux pearls the original was crafted in 18ct gold, rubies, diamonds and pearls and is on permanent exhibition next to the Dalí Theatre - Museum in Figueres and a bit over my budget at around $6000

These little treats are the perfect additions to my jewellery collection and are certainly going to complete my outfits perfectly.
