Dress DIY

while I have been all horribly ill I finally found the time for a bit of dress DIY, I have had a lovely basic Forever21 dress in my wardrobe since new year when it was used as the vital component to my Spanish Inquisition custom (I assure you all our little troupe was quite unexpected). The dress is a wonderful red maxi dress with long selves and a split to the thigh and in the sale a utter bargain, I love the style but felt it was a little dull to enter the mainstay of my wardrobe so I got sewing!

Inspired by Tatty Devine's flower necklace with a bit of Frida Khalo fun I decided on some bright appliqué flowers to add that splash of colour and magpie fun. So here's my little step by step and I hope I inspire you to make your own little magpie customisations.
I cant wait to wear the dress in the sunshine.

Digging around in my fabric box i found quite a few felt scrapes to play with

The starting point, red Forever 21 dress

Plan of the dress applique layout, all ready to cut out

Flowers all cut out and pined into place ready to sew on. I have also decided to add some embroidery on top of the flowers for a bit of extra detail.

Final dress all done!  Each flower has been sewn on and a little added embroidery   to the larger flowers for added details. it looks fabulous and i couldn't be happier and cant wait to wear it.

I even had time to add a little be on the shoulder, buzzing towards the flowers. My first bit of embroidery  so a little rough but so cute.
Cant wait to wear it, the flowers are fantastic and add a beautiful splash of colour to the dress. its going to become a summer favs.
